Kakadu's Premier Waterfalls Tour

Jim Jim Falls & Twin Falls

Day tour

Join Top End Explorer Tours in a small group of like-minded people on this adventurous 4WD safari to the edge of the impressive Arnhemland escarpment and experience these two world renowned icons of World-Heritage-listed  Kakadu National Park!

Your guide will collect you from your accommodation in the township of Jabiru at 06:45,  or from Gagudju Lodge Cooinda (Home of Yellow Waters) at 07:30 - it's worth getting up early to see these must-do's on your journey to Kakadu!

Travel comfortably in our air-conditioned 4WD through the savannah woodlands of Kakadu, which might initially appear lifeless, but have more diversity than you’d ever expect!  Share your guide’s knowledge about Kakadu National Park with its changing landscapes and distinct ecosystems.  Discover the astonishing variety of bush tucker (food supplied by Mother Nature) and potent medicine plants.  Let your guide introduce you to the culture of the local Aboriginal people and tell some stories about the history of the area.

Find out more interesting facts about the native flora and fauna on a bushwalk through  the shady  monsoonal  rainforest  along  Jim Jim Creek.
Be rewarded for hiking 900 metres over large rocks and boulders into the gorge with a refreshing swim in the cool, clear waters under the towering cliffs of Jim Jim Falls, a hot cuppa, and ample opportunity to take that perfect photograph.

Please note:     Jim Jim Falls may or may not be flowing,
                      depending on seasonal conditions.

Your journey continues with an adventurous drive on the 4WD track towards Twin Falls.  A short boat trip and a stroll along the edge of the creek lead us into Twin Falls Gorge.   Try to catch a glimpse of a pig-nosed turtle in the deep water of the creek or the timid freshwater crocodile basking in the sun.  Take a break and enjoy your picnic lunch on the beautiful white sandy beach at the base of the magnificent Twin Falls

Please note:     Swimming is currently not permitted
in the gorge of Twin Falls.

During the cooler months of the dry season your guide might take you on the Twin Falls escarpment walk, as an alternative to the trip into the gorge, depending on the fitness level of all participants and seasonal conditions (subject to guide’s discretion). The initial climb on this marked walking track is steep and challenging, but the scenery on top of the Arnhemland escarpment you’re about to discover is breathtakingly beautiful! Cool down in the clear water above the waterfalls and be in awe of Kakadu’s stone country.

The walks on this tour are challenging. A good level of agility, balance and fitness are required to climb over rocks, which can be slippery with water and sand and have uneven surfaces. There are no formed walkways or hand rails - this is Nature!

Children are welcome, however, this tour is generally not suitable for families with very young children (under 5 years of age), unless they have undertaken similar bushwalks etc. previously.
